Jean-Marie Tarascon, winner of the CNRS Gold Medal 2022
The CNRS Gold Medal is a prestigious prize awarded each yearin recognition of outstanding contributions to science. This year, the award goes to Jean-Marie Tarascon, a renowned chemist and professor at the Collège de France, for his pioneering work in lithium chemistry and the design of new batteries.
The CNRS Gold Medal is accompanied by a 50,000 euro prize funded by the CNRS Foundation. The award ceremony took place at the Maison de la Chimie in Paris on December 19, 2022. This recognition testifies to Jean-Marie Tarascon’s contributions to the field of solid state chemistry and his role in advancing our understanding of energy storage.
Jean-Marie Tarascon has spent over 25 years working in laboratories affiliated to the CNRS, and his research has led to the synthesis of new electrode materials and electrolytes for batteries. These advances have played a key role in the development of more efficient, longer-lasting batteries for a whole range of applications, from portable electronics to electric vehicles.
The CNRS Foundation is thus initiating its policy of endowing CNRS talent.
