CNRS Gold Medal 2023

The 2023 CNRS Gold Medal was awarded to ecologist Sandra Lavorel, a researcher specializing in ecosystem functioning at the Alpine Ecology Laboratory (CNRS/Université Grenoble Alpes/Université Savoie Mont-Blanc).

A researcher at the CNRS for 30 years, Sandra Lavorel is a pioneer in defining and analyzing the services that ecosystems provide to human societies. She has shown that the alteration of biodiversity and ecosystems due to global change has quantifiable social and economic impacts.

She will receive her award, along with an endowment of €50,000 from the CNRS Foundation, on December 20, 2023, at a ceremony at the Maison de la Chimie in Paris.
