On Thursday September 12, 2024, the CNRS Foundation organized one of its annual events to present its latest news.

This year’s event focused on its “Sentinels of Biodiversity” campaign and highlighted three of its sheltered foundations.

The annual event began with a presentation of the Foundation and its activities by Michel Mortier, the Foundation’s Managing Director.

The second part was devoted to presenting the various aspects of the “Sentinels of Biodiversity” campaign, with presentations by researchers at the heart of the scientific project:

  • Philippe Grandcolas, DR CNRS, and Deputy Scientific Director of CNRS Ecologie & Environnement: “Biodiversity unthought of: how to get out of the crisis?
  • Vincent Bretagnole, DR CNRS: “Transformative research in a rural area: socio-ecological experiments with farmers and local residents”. A very enlightening example of work carried out within a Workshop Zone

Then there are testimonials from patrons involved in the campaign:

The final section presented three foundations under aegis:

  • Sciences4Reefs was illustrated by a beautiful video clip focusing on its mission to identify new solutions to limit the loss of coral reef biodiversity in the face of environmental change.
  • Jérôme Chartier, President of Entretiens de Royaumont presented, after a magnificent video introduction, the Albédo Foundation for the Cryosphere whose mission is to support French and French-speaking scientific programs of interest, both nationally and internationally, relating to the Cryosphere, and in particular to the North and South Polar Regions or very high-altitude zones.
  • Carole Molina-Jouve and Pascal Loubiere presented the missions of the Avenir Afrique Foundation which are: Training, Research, Innovation, Transfer and Entrepreneurship for the IDBio project (Sustainable Engineering of Biobased Products).

In conclusion, Antoine Petit, President of the CNRS Foundation, underlined the dynamism of the Foundation and its importance to an institution such as the CNRS. CNRS.

A cocktail party concluded the event in the VIP lounge, a convivial moment of sharing and exchange.

L’CNRS Foundation team team would like to thank all speakers and participants for contributing to the success of this wonderful event.
