Her research in the Brazilian Amazon lies at the intersection of Americanist anthropology (study of South American Amerindian groups), the anthropology of transmission (study of long-term migrations and the construction of ties to the land) and the anthropology of nature (perception of landscape dynamics, relationships between humans and non-humans).
