Today, over three billion people depend on marine and coastal biodiversity for their livelihoods. Yet the human footprint on the oceans is becoming an ever-greater threat. With over 1,000 scientists working in some 50 laboratories, the CNRS is one of the world&#8217;s leading research organizations, capable of forging multiple alliances between all disciplines &#8211; oceanography, physics, sociology, biology, ecology, geology, mathematics, chemistry, economics and even philosophy &#8211; to study the ocean in all its dimensions.   <\/p>\n<p>To support the organization of research and cooperation on this subject, the CNRS and its institutes have drawn up a scientific strategy.
