{"id":14152,"date":"2022-03-10T15:05:43","date_gmt":"2022-03-10T13:05:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fondation-cnrs.org\/supporting-regenerative-medicine-with-the-cnrs-foundation\/"},"modified":"2022-03-10T15:05:43","modified_gmt":"2022-03-10T13:05:43","slug":"supporting-regenerative-medicine-with-the-cnrs-foundation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fondation-cnrs.org\/en\/supporting-regenerative-medicine-with-the-cnrs-foundation\/","title":{"rendered":"Supporting regenerative medicine with the CNRS Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Researcher Vincent Fleury accompanied by members of the MSC research team.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"text-align: justify; text-indent: 18pt; color: black;\"><strong>With the onset of Covid-19, and the characteristic lung problems that followed,<\/strong> researcher Vincent Fleury of the <\/span><a style=\"text-align: justify; text-indent: 18pt;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.msc.univ-paris-diderot.fr\/?lang=fr\">Mati\u00e8re et Syst\u00e8mes Complexes<\/a><span style=\"text-align: justify; text-indent: 18pt; color: black;\"> (MSC) laboratory, a joint unit of the CNRS and the University of Paris, began looking into <strong>lung regeneration<\/strong>.<\/span> <span style=\"text-align: justify; text-indent: 18pt; color: black;\">One thing led to another, and he came up with alternative methods for stimulating organ growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin; color: black; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;\">His research has led him to take a progressive interest in children born with limbs that are too short (a phenomenon known as hypoplasia), who could benefit directly from the fruits of his experiments. These rare pathologies are impossible to treat and severely handicap patients in their daily lives.   <strong>Our working hypotheses therefore point to compensatory growth of the limbs in an attempt to correct the malformations.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin; color: black; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;\">To date, the results tested on animal models appear promising, and are encouraging researchers in their endeavours. <strong>In the long term, the aim is to exploit the results of fundamental research through the creation of a start-up company,<\/strong> ideally to develop a medical device.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"text-align: justify; text-indent: 18pt; color: black;\"><strong>L<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"text-align: justify; text-indent: 18pt; color: black;\"><strong>he CNRS Foundation is proving to be an invaluable ally when it comes to funding research.<\/strong>  Through the project, the MSC laboratory has received its first private donation for medical research, and hopes to encourage public generosity.
