On Thursday, July 7, 2022, the CNRS Foundation organized its first “Foundation celebrates its foundations under aegis” event.<\/h2>\n

On Thursday, July 7, 2022<\/strong>, the CNRS Foundation<\/strong> organized its first ” The Foundation celebrates its foundations under aegis<\/strong> ” event to present its missions, its sheltered foundations (Rescue Ocean, Geomanum and the 2100 Foundation) and its ecosystem. The event had several aims: <\/p>\n

– <\/span><\/span><\/span>Bring together the players involved in foundations<\/strong> under aegis in order to gain a better understanding of the issues, values and missions of these foundations;<\/p>\n

– <\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>Explain the different roles of<\/strong> the CNRS Foundation;<\/p>\n

– <\/span><\/span><\/span>Offer an opportunity to exchange<\/strong> and share ideas and create new synergies.<\/p>\n

The presentations began with a presentation of the Foundation and its actions by Michel Mortier, Managing Director<\/strong>, followed by a short description of the Rescue Ocean Foundation.<\/p>\n

Erwan Bocher<\/strong>, co-founder and president of the GEOMANUM Foundation<\/strong>, explained how geographic data can be used to support the ecological transition and adaptation to climate change. GEOMANUM’s ambition is to develop research in the field of Geographic Information Sciences in order to assess and anticipate the impact of human societies on climate and the environment, while supporting the ecological transition of territories. <\/p>\n

Jean Eric Aubert<\/strong>, co-founder and Chairman of the 2100 Foundation<\/strong>, spoke about its values. The 2100 Foundation supports the development of academic activities in global and regional foresight, respecting the specificities of different civilizations. <\/p>\n

Guest speaker Roberto Di Cosmo<\/strong>, renowned computer scientist and director of Software Heritage, came to demonstrate the importance of the open source concept and presented his Universal Software Library initiative, emphasizing the importance of the foundation model for this.<\/p>\n

Two new Foundations were then presented to the public.<\/p>\n

The co-founders of the OwnTech Foundation, Jean Alinei and Luis Fernando Lavado<\/strong> Villa, explained their project: to create and animate a community space around a technology commons aimed at democratizing access to power electronics, a technology at the heart of the electrification of society, essential to the energy transition. To achieve this, their technology commons includes open-source hardware, open-source software and data. <\/p>\n

Alexis Rosenfeld<\/strong> is here to pass on his passion for diving and marine conservation, which he uses to support the 1 Ocean Foundation<\/strong>, along with co-founders Claire Monchauzou and John Jackson. The mission of the 1 Ocean Foundation is to produce content that popularizes scientific research on oceans and marine environments. Their three pillars? Explore-Document-Transmit <\/p>\n

Antoine Petit, President of the CNRS Foundation<\/strong>, rounded off this first round of exchanges and information about foundations under aegis by hailing their rapid development, and emphasizing the importance of a foundation to an establishment such as the CNRS.<\/p>\n

Then, with the solemn and public signing of their founding agreements, the 1 Ocean and OwnTech Foundations were born, under the aegis of the CNRS Foundation. A momentous occasion, representing recognition of the work accomplished by their founders. <\/p>\n

Starting at 6:30pm, a cocktail reception in the VIP lounge will encourage guests to discuss the challenges ahead over a drink.<\/p>\n

For more than two years, the CNRS Foundation has been committed to :<\/p>\n

– <\/span><\/span><\/span>To be a toolbox<\/strong> for CNRS laboratories and researchers (foundations under aegis, funded thematic projects, direct support for laboratories, etc.).<\/p>\n

– <\/span><\/span><\/span>Be a vector for the development of corporate<\/strong> and individual philanthropy<\/strong> in France and abroad, to finance research.<\/p>\n

– <\/span><\/span><\/span>Support, accompany and promote<\/strong> talent (CNRS Gold Medal, George Brahms Prize, Suzanne Bella Srodogora Prize, Prix Lelong, etc.).<\/p>\n
